While there are a wide variety of types and styles of firearms and many techniques proffered by experts (and not-so-experts), this rule-of-thumb approach is very good and easy to practice and remember. I got my Compact Beretta Cougar 8045 back in the mid 90's, before they sold it off to Stoeger. The 8045 Cougar is hands down better than the Glock, HK45, Sig, etc. in my opinion. The Cougar just a more solid look and feel than all those other service weapons. Seriously, once you hold a cougar you won't want any other pistol.

actually stoeger is owned by beretta, they discontinued the cougar & sent all the original machinery to their stoeger plant in turkey, exact same gun made on the exact same machines when they was stamping them with beretta. they're only making the 9mm and 40 in F config though.. there is a 45 & .357sig that was also made under beretta name along with some other variants like inox. got mine for 330, been looking to buy another but can't find them now. beretta stamped guns are about 200 more.

i want the tact light so bad >.< but its so expensive like $99 fuck! I have the laser night sight (pressure activated) that hugs around the glock's handle. Do you see a little hole there? thats what its for its always ready when i hold it and when i let go the laser turns off by itslef. Costed over $200 but was worth it cuz in an emergency i wudnt have time to turn stuff on or off. Glcoks are good guns :)

@kedluben what ya mean? like a safety? well...for me personally as a person who carries his gun in zippered gun pouches and lays it on his car seat (legal in FL)sometimes there is a fear of something setting the trigger off so waht i do is..i pull it back to make sure a bullet isnt in there and dry fire like done in video and load a mag.. thats a good thing cuz its like the only safety feature u got but then again its bad cuz if its not cocked and if ur in an emergency 1 second cud = ur life

What surprises me about my Judge is how accurate it is with .45 LC rounds. This is a great hunting pistol as well. (Check your local laws for minimum barrel length requirements!) A friend of mine took one on a dove shoot and got some birds close up.

I'm not too fond of the fact that it can pierce armor... In most situations where a radical of some kind must be taken down, it's more important to be accurate, because they're probably hiding, and don't have access to heavy armor to begin with... granted, there's always an exception, but still...

That is use proper stance, trigger control etc. The problem a lot of people have when they shoot large calibers and move down is they tend to anticipate recoil. That's not really a good thing. You don't want to be jerking or jumping when shooting your .40sw after you came from your .500 Best thing to do is practice with what you carry IMO.

It depends on what state you're in. I'm almost positive you can hunt with a Smith & Wesson .500 if you wanted to. As long as the barrel is 5 and a half inches long, I could use a handgun chambered in .22 for deer or bear. Not like I'd want to... Just piss a bear off with that...

Good point about the reloads. I use factory, mostly because I care too much about the gun to put anything less than factory fresh in, also because I have no room for the reload equipment anyway. But a lot of people that reload would carry reloads for defense. If they ever need to defend themselves they'd need to substantiate how powerful the reloaded round was

I personally have dry fired my 1911's millions of times. The New South Wales Police have a large dry-fire component in their firearms training regimen and they use Glocks.

Absolutely true. The fact it would have fired had he dry fired it would have merely showed his failure to check his firearm rather than that AND nearly kill somebody. It's never a pretty site when safety rules are not followed. I guess I only said that I prefer not to dry fire because I've heard a lot of bad things about dry firing hammer fired semi autos, but I hear a lot of other things as well.

The guy in that story confirms the need to drop the hammer on an empty chamber. Had he done that, he would have known that the pistol wasn't clear. The resulting recoil and boom would clue him in. If you hand someone a gun with the slide back, you can almost guarantee they will drop the slide. The bottom line is follow the Four Basic Safety Rules at all time and no one will get hurt.

It is definitely confirmation, but I don't feel that a dry fire is absolutely necessary for that. A semi auto without a magazine with the slide locked back and visually inspected is good enough for me. That said, we always treat our guns with great respect, irregardless of whether they are loaded. Nutnfancy's story about the guy who thought his 1911 was empty and shot at a table when he lost a game of scrabble was just sickening to the stomach. Poor girl nearly lost her leg.

It's not so much the numbers as it is having to conciously look at each chamber as part of the counting process. Too often, shooters will open the cylinder, eject the cartridges maybe briefly look at the cylinder and close it. By incorporating a process which requires conscious acknowledgement that each chamber is empty, you increase the chance that a round won't be overlooked regardless of whether the gun was fully loaded or not.

Simple: Some revolvers hold 5, 6 or 8. I once cleared a S&W 686, closed the cylinder, pointed the muzzle in a safe direction and pulled the trigger 5 times. I opened the cylinder and to my horror discovered that one round had not fallen out into my hand. I'm far more safe and cautious than 99% of the gun owners out there, if it can happen to me, it can happen to you. By counting, you drastically reduce the chance of that happening.

Dry firing a 1911 is perfectly fine. I own several and dry fire them every time I clear it to clean or let someone else hold it. Rimfire guns you should never dry fire. Old style revolvers that have the firing pin on the hammer shoule also never be dry fired. New style auto loaders do not have any problems with dry firing. Do a little research and you will see why dry firing a modern handgun is not harmful.

Hello. I am new to the handgun world. I personally own an old Colt .38 army special. I am looking to purchase a new 1911. There is a Springfield 1911 at a local gun store here. However with my cold, as it doesnt have any saftey, and is double action, I can take it out and just fire until all 6 rounds are spent. Good Video. I just got a CW40 a few days ago to use as my CCW carry. Although, I have never had to use a tool to get it apart. Just line up and push, the pin is a LITTLE difficult to pull out, but nothing you need a tool for. If you've ever broken down a S&W 6900 series, this is very similar. nice video man a couple of tips with the kahr 1 grab it like you would a glock to disassemble it 2 if you compress the spring with the guide rod in it before you put it in the slide it will be easier but be very careful not to let that guide rod get loose while the spring is compressed

Thats somewhat normal. The barrel isn't fixed like w/some other types of guns. My Glock is the same way(even more dramatic). When the slide is forward it's all perfectly aligned. Mine is also pretty accurate. Thanks For The Nice Comment.

Thanks very much for making this video. I was a bit skeptical about disassembling my CW40 but now that I see it's relatively easy, I can finally clean it up real good. One thing I saw on your video thats strange, and the same on my Kahr, is that the when the slide is pulled back, the barrel dosen't look straight. Any idea why? Mine shoots straight as an arrow, but strange that the barrel points slightly upward. Thanks again for the video!

Yes, I will do a long term update. I'm not sure if you you've seen it, but I have a review vid of this Gun posted on my channel. It should answer some of your questions. Yes, it's mine. I have not had it for a while. It's barley broken in so I can't comment on long term reliablity. Very light, something like 16 ounces(pistol only). Thanks

I have to agree w/ you on the ergonomics of the kahr pistols. And my hands are on the small side. My main concern is w/reliability, weight, ease of carry, comfort, etc. Do you own this pistol? If so, how long? Maybe an update on long term use? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much again for your time and effort!

So far this gun has been very reliable, I think it's really nice looking, and very easy to conceal. Also which I failed to mention in my Kahr review vid, the grip on it is great. It's very comfortable in my large hands. The takedown is really not that bad but if you compare it to a Glock, it's a pain. I've heard great things from people with more experience with the Kahr. So, basically if you interested in it I would go for it. The pros of this gun out weigh the cons. Thanks Man.

Oh yeah, much eaiser. The takedown pin(Kahr), when I first field stripped it, was a pain in the ass to remove. No extra tools needed with the Glock.

Yep. My guess is that the ones who shoot themselves "cleaning" their Glock probably ought not have a gun in the first place. Or maybe it's just the Darwin Rule in effect.

@TattooedHoodlum Okay, but the slide has to be pulled back in order to pivot the take down lever. Besides those "Glock owners" weren't following the first rule of firearm ownership. They deserved to get shot. I have a Glock 23 and I never have the weapon pointed towards me when I pull the trigger.

Flot2illa, The sear disconnect is put there so you don't have to pull the trigger to dsiassemble the pistol. It was put there as a safety feature, as more than a few Glock owners have shot themselves trying to field strip their weapons.

I have a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II .45 and a S&W M&P .45 and in MY opinion the S&W is a nice weapon, but is not even near equal to the Kimber. But, if the M&P is in your price range, good chioce!

You should shoot revolvers (I assume you mean revolver...) more. -I've- had a revolver jam and while it's a lot more rare the difference is that usually the semi is back in action after a tap rap bang, the revolver (for a star jam like mine particularly) needs a ride to the gun hospital.
