I should note that when I mention "pioneering" before, I'm not necessarily saying that they aren't coming up with new ideas, but that developers kinda still didn't know what they were doing or capable of (with the surveys and such). Now, developers know exactly what they are doing when they make a game; whether it be Megaman 9 or Kingdom Hearts; they don't really need our input much anymore; we just take what we get...seriously, I'm done now.

This isn't true for everything, but games just have so much going on right now that the effort that goes into them gets scattered unevenly whereas you made a game that was simply fun. The game could look like complete ass and come off as a gem. Like you, my newest is the DS; I have little to no interest in the newer games. Anyone that will come out and say to play new games and old games suck are complete morons...and I've run into my fair share of morons...OK, I'm done for now :P

During the simpler times of games, people were thinking more about how to work around the limitations of technology; Sega was working around their sound issues with the GEN; SNES was working around slowdown...but they had some outstanding games. The games focused on the fun; I now feel that developers feel that making games is a chore...that games are too advanced and they have to worry more about making the best 3D models rather than focusing on what really matters; the gameplay. I've wanted to make videos like these for a while too; things like this are on my mind lately and I've wanted people's input and such. It's strange...back then, lots of games would "Thank you for playing" and manuals would have surveys asking you about their product with mail-back forms and such. They wanted your input and seemed to care more. Gaming was still "pioneering" during the 90's; developers were excited...now, you get manuals that don't thank you for your patronage...(more)

I heavily agree with the DS comment; the PSP is good, but I feel it tries too hard to be like the PS2 with very "pretty" 3D games that focus a lot on graphics, whereas the DS, while not as powerful, is much more innovative in my opinion with games that focus on the fun. Don't get me wrong; PSP has some good games, but developers have a HUGE interest in the DS as opposed to the PSP, which leads to quite a few innovative games.

@DeOnDemand Honestly, I'm not a fanboy either. To be completely honest, Sony really isn't doing much with 3D. If anything, Nintendo actually is the ONLY company that pioneers EVERYTHING in the video game industry (I may sound like I'm defending Nintendo a bit too much), but it's true that Nintendo pretty much is the leader in video game innovation (whether it's 2D or 3D). Sure the Wii is underpowered compared to the PS3. Along with that, Nintendo won the E3 Show this year. -kid thunder

@kibjohn And don't even get me started on the PS3's disastrous launch period. $600 for a gaming system is absolutely unheard of, coupled with the fact that they also overcharge for crap on the PlayStation Store ($5 for a 15-year-old PS1 game...sound familiar?), and even though their online is free, it's less reliable and flashy than Xbox Live. Hell, Sony's been overcharging their first-party accessories since Day 1. PS2 memory cards and controllers STILL cost more than they should.

@kibjohn I'm not really a fanboy, I have a Wii and PS3, I would like 360 but i have gone through 2 so I think that's a good enough reason to hate them lol. Yeh there are a few awesome games for the Wii but even without the shovelware those good games would still be hard to find. Nintendo developers are only just getting to grips with the Wii which is why we are seeing some great Wii games coming out now. I think because of the tech, PS3 devs will easily be able to make great games for move

@Indead and that they did not have to just keep pumping out the same old games over and over again, and it wasn't all about MONEY like it primarily is now, and it was about trying to make better games to one up the competition of the other, as well as trying to have "better features" than the other consoles so that people would prefer yours. Consoles now a day are just blending, as we are seeing with this stream of ports to not only home consoles, but to handhelds(ridiculous).
