An average bee can fly upwards of 20 MPH, sorry you can't outrun them. They are only in the southern states now, they haven't moved much farther than the mid south. They are not the norm, as managed hive can quickly be requeened. Hive life rotation, or from the time that the queen is replaced until the hive is now entirely her offspring is 45 to 50 days

The idea is to get as far away from the hive as possible. The hive gets less territorial the farther away you are. The best thing to do is to get indoors or into a car and shut the doors!

Lol OK, So I'll make sure I stay away from them if ever I come to the states, but running in a straight line, you would never make it would you?

Killer bees are relentless and will attack in mass numbers when provoked. Provoked means you could be within 15-20 feet of their hive/nest. They will sting any moveing thing and will stay angry long after an european honey bee or hornet. They have been known to stay angry for hours. Best thing to do is run in a straight line. They have also been known to chase for up to a mile.

So how does the Killer bees compare to the hornets who are supposed to be the most aggresive stinging insect on earth? They sure would scare me shitless if I came across them.

These are definitely Africanised Bees. Their temper frigthens me. As a beekeeper, I'd keep well clear.

Uh... definitely not swarming, these hives were years old and we moved them out to this location where it would be safe to get the honey. They were in some lady's backyard and nobody could go near the hives because they are Africanized... not swarming. Bees are not at all aggressive when they are swarming.

That is to say, bees only attack when they feel their home is being threatened. In two of these cases the customers enjoyed the bees being on there property. They didn't realize they were Africanized. Contrasting this, last week while "hammering" two huge holes into a customer's house to perform a live removal of a two year old hive, wearing just a tee-shirt and no suit or hat, I received no stings at all. We take pics of all our jobs, they'll post soon on our site. Cheers.

Hi, just a note. Beekeepers don't see this as bad beekeeping! We were not keeping these bees, that's why no smoker was used. From our last month's Africanized bee service, one lamb died after 100's of stings, a man was stung 20 times from his yard to the house. A horse was harshly injured, and today a man called for help, he told me that both his son and their dog were attacked. The dog, stung 2000 times has a 50/50 chance. These bees do need to be respected. Bees attack near their home.
